ALICE KEITH KNOWLES  - BIOGRAPHY

 

Alice Keith Knowles is a graduate of Oberlin College Conservatory of Music with a degree in violin performance. She is Principal Violin II of Symphony of the Mountains in Tennessee and also performs with the Asheville Symphony Orchestra in North Carolina.

 

A strong believer in the Suzuki philosophy for musical instruction, she has taught with Suzuki Talent Education of Appalachia, based in Kingsport,TN and founded  and  coordinated the Suzuki program at the Wilmington (DE) Music School. As a faculty member with Buffalo Suzuki Strings, she acted as Ass't. Music Director for Advanced Class Tours to (then) USSR and Hungary,Australia, Italy and Switzerland and the southeastern USA.

 

While living in Buffalo,NY, she performed as a "regular extra" with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, and joined

them for several NY State tours and to Europe in 1988. She was a member of the Ars Nova Chamber Orchestra which, in addtion to other concerts, presents a "Viva Vivaldi" festival annually in November.

During many years living in Delaware,Mrs. Knowles performed as Principal Violin II of the Delaware Symphony and OperaDelaware and as alternate concertmaster of the Wilmington Chamber Orchestra. She has recently "come home" to her native state and is living in Black Mountain, NC.
