Composer/Librettist Michael Kosch and
choreographer/costume designer Rachael Kosch
have created a delightful show for families
called THE FESTIVAL OF THE VEGETABLES.
The Festival
of the Vegetables is a series of brief,
witty poems, piano pieces, and dances that
reveal the secret life of vegetables. We
find ourselves in a huge supermarket where a
toddler shopping with mom, nods off to
sleep. The child dreams of vegetable
adventures – stories of bravery, brattiness,
and paleontology – each introduced by a
couple of bumbling yet
eloquent produce clerks: A zuke-suited
zucchini struts his way across the brunch
table. . . a passionate pickle serenades a
fickly stalk of celery . . . a giant
Escarole sweeps across the stage with her
swelling sails of satin. Vegetable-people of
all varieties jump and whirl and pirouette
on pointe.
Costumes are a
combination of soft sculpture-like original
creations by Rachael Kosch, and haute
couture vintage gowns. Bright, vivid,
vegetable hues color the stage. A splash of
rhinestone sparkle adds visual delight.
